Milford Police Department

Milford, Delaware

Background

The Milford Police Department embarked on a new era as they unveiled their brand-new police station after 18 months of construction. Police Chief Cecilia Ashe expressed that the more than 24,000 square foot facility marks a significant step towards meeting state and national certifications. The city decided a new location was needed after evaluating Milford’s public safety needs had outgrown the existing facility. Milford Chief of Police Cecilia Ashe says having a new facility that can better serve the community is crucial to helping solve workforce recruitment and retention problems. Milford Mayor Arthur Campbell, who officiated the ribbon-cutting ceremony, noted that the original police department, constructed in 1979, accommodated 18 officers and catered to a population of approximately 5,400 residents. Fast forward to the present, with 37 officers serving a community of 12,000 individuals. Vice Mayor Jason James emphasizes that the new building is crucial not only for enhancing public safety efficiency and effectiveness.

The Solution

The new station, equipped with contemporary conveniences like a cutting-edge kitchen, fitness center, and enhanced interview and meeting areas, is designed to enhance service delivery. Becker Morgan Group partnered with Eastern Metals Inc. and opted for Fabral Powerseam II 16″ for the metal roofing of this project. Quality Exteriors Inc. performed the installation of this high-performance, mechanically seamed standing seam roofing system. Fabral Powerseam II stands out with its 180-degree machine seaming, field rollforming capabilities, and the impressive ability to curve to a minimum radius of 10 feet, adding aesthetic appeal and substantial value to projects in educational, athletic, and civic & government sectors.

The facility’s community room stands out, showcasing the department’s dedication to building closer bonds with residents. Mayor Campbell stressed its role in bridging the gap between the community and law enforcement, noting Milford’s unique appreciation for the police force. He affirmed their commitment to prompt, courteous service, aiming to uphold trust and cooperation.
