Collegiate Academic Commons

Richmond, Virginia

The Sharp Academic Commons at the Collegiate School is a “technologically and architecturally innovative space in which Collegiate Upper Schoolers learn and connect.” The Collegiate School desired to add a building that could accommodate the entire Upper School student population to provide group learning experiences and incorporate the newest in learning technologies. Fabral Thin Seam metal roofing was chosen for its extensive product availability, outstanding service, and LEED support. With the roof being the dominant architectural feature of the building, special care had to be taken to match the existing and new buildings surrounding the project. The academic commons is a 27,000 square foot library and meeting place “designed to adapt to the future needs of the digital information age.” It houses the school’s library as well as dining, meeting, and classroom spaces for approximately 1,600 K-12 students.
