44060 Digital Loudoun Plaza is a 98-acre secured data center campus located in Northern Virginia convenient to Washington Dulles Airport and major roadways. Owned by Digital Realty, Inc., the world’s largest data center solutions provider, the plaza is located in Loudoun County, a major hub for worldwide internet traffic. Digital Realty rents equipment, space and bandwidth in state-of-the art data centers to companies that may lack the knowledge or resources to create and maintain facilities that meet their computing needs. The campus consists of 10 buildings, each designed with a single main entry point, that are surrounded by a perimeter fence and secured by a 24/7/365 guard station, key card access, closed-circuit TV and biometric controls.
While dedicated power and cooling keep the data centers running, reliable and secure wall cladding is also essential to safeguarding high-end equipment and data. Fabral® metal wall panels clad two new campus structures, Building J and Building K. Aluminum concealed fastener and exposed fastener profiles create a modern appearance consistent with the buildings‘ high tech purpose.
With a range of profiles and configurations, Fabral Silhouette HCF SeriesTM concealed fastener panels meet design requirements for a variety of applications. Here, 12″ and 16″ .040“ panels in Gray Velvet add visual clarity to the facade. Contrasting Hefti-Rib panels in Network Gray screen the roof’s perimeter. Distinguished by their superior strength-to-weight ratio and spanning capabilities, Hefti-Rib adds texture and strength while serving as a durable exterior canvas.
Seamless mitered corners were specifically engineered to ensure complete horizontal continuity. Factory-coated with primer and paint finish to color-match the adjacent panels, the corners are folded to the desired angle and structurally bonded to eliminate transition lines. The finished weathertight, structurally sound corners create a continuous appearance appropriate to the quality of the service of the building provider.
SOLID DELIVERY, GOOD PRODUCT, PROBLEM RESOLUTION
The fabricator, John W. McDougall, credits Fabral with helping the firm win the contract. On the first of the two buildings to be completed, Building K, Fabral quality and value convinced the architect to work with the panels. Based on this success, Fabral panels were subsequently specified for Building J.
Fabral also came through with order delivery. When the installation timeline for Building K was reduced from 11 weeks to seven, Fabral panels and accessories were delivered within three weeks to keep the project on schedule.
